I used to think I was writing songs, but it's so interchangeable with poetry...and here we are! Little stories too...

THE SONG AT THE CRACK OF DAWN...

The quiet of the night has engulfed the con artist of days and socials past
Only you can hear the distant passing car
For the bars have just hit last call
Yet I still stand tall facing the mirror
For judgement day begins at the crack of dawn

You see, I've been playing dangerous games
Chess filled with riddles...
Their pawns and kings stare me down...
I must set a trap, for the Kings give a carp
To bait the bosses....

Now we just play this little waiting game, for the latter was only the first straw
See if they'll fall for my trick, I've already won at seven-card draw
For the candle's wick burns steadily still, and that's inside the law
Frick, when will the sun rise, because these words are getting raw...
Just because Mick said the darkest part of the night was right before dawn...

At times I believe I'm the evil genius
I'll revel in times of chaos
I'll tell all when I push for a revolution
I'll push the mower into them....
I'll lower the standards for indecency....

For there will be clones
Bones of the same person multiplied
Both liking the same waffle cone
I don't see why I can't phone from two places at once
I don't see why I can't roam the universe twice over....
I don't see why I'm done after one life lived...
I don't see why I can't escape the zones of a mastermindful game...

For the day has now come where my aforementioned twin has been born
I'm in two places at once!
I don't care that he's my clone
Nobody will know the difference
Because I'm just a wanderer anyways
Travelling the world with no end in sight
My clone can deal with the bullshit I've left behind for the crack of dawn...
Because I've done run away, done run away, done run away from the Kings' pawns.....
And left a clone to face them on their front lawns

Chess, you say?
Well Ray, it was just a recess game
Kind of lame, wasn't it?
Didn't bring you the shaped cane?
But boy, at least I'll get to search for a beautiful dame in a faraway land!
